Technical French Translator

Salary: $4000 to $5000 per/month, depending on experience.

Description:
The Fluid Life Corporation, Canada's leading oil, fuel and coolant analysis provider, would like to improve the way we communicate with our French speaking customers. As a result of this initiative, we have recently created an opening for a French translator. This new position will commence on a six-month contract basis and may be extended indefinitely.
The successful candidate will accurately and efficiently translate material containing business, technical and scientific information in the form of general documents, website materials, and PDF documents from English to French (approximately 180,000 words). This position will report to the Chief Technical Officer and receive input from both the General Manager and the Regional Account Manager responsible for Quebec and the Maritimes.
Position Qualifications and Experience:
- Possession of an Undergraduate Degree in one or more languages,
- Completion of a specialized program in translation, or a certificate in Translation Studies
- Two or more years of translation experience would be considered an asset.
- This position will require the applicant demonstrate competence by translating a technical section of writing that will be provided during the interview.
Required Skills and Competencies:
The applicant should excel at transcribing and analyzing text, and determining the most appropriate and technically sensible adaptation from English to French. Other preferable characteristics would include:
- Inquisitiveness and an interest in researching information.
- The ability to pay close attention to detail for extended periods.
- Adaptability.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Strong written communication skills in technical French and in English.
- A thorough knowledge of grammar and punctuation in technical French and in English.
- Superior organizational skills.
- Sound proofreading skills.
