The Analytical Chemist will require a diverse skill set to solve challenging technical problems. Responsibilities will include the development and implementation of novel test methods for in-service lubricants, diesel fuels and engine coolants focused on using FTIR, ICP-OES, XRF, titration, GC, and IC. The position is ideally suited to an individual with an attention to detail and who is capable of working in a self-directed manner.

This is a Full Time Permanent position based out of our Head Office and Laboratory located in Edmonton, Alberta. This position may require occasional travel to other laboratory locations in Canada and the United States.

KEY OBJECTIVES:

  • Research, develop, optimize and implement laboratory analytical test methods and instrumentation for the analysis of used lubricating oils, fuels, greases, and coolants.
  • Identify opportunities for industry leading analytical test methods and instrumentation, R&D projects and product innovation.
  • Recognize and implement laboratory process and productivity enhancements to improve efficiency.
  • Provide complex technical knowledge and guidance with a focus on analytical chemistry and instrumentation.
  • Train and mentor laboratory staff on analytical instrumentation and chemistry.
  • Take a proactive role working with the laboratory, R&D and Instrumentation teams to minimize instrument downtime and optimize maintenance and repair activities at all of Fluid Life’s laboratories (Canada and the US).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide complex technical support, guidance and leadership with particular focus on continuous improvement of both internal laboratory processes and customer satisfaction.
  • Work with a high degree of independence to overcome challenges in the development process of new methods, while working to achieve the vision of a project.
  • Assist in the general operation of all Fluid Life labs including performing routine analysis, instrument maintenance, equipment set-up, troubleshooting, and orders of lab supplies and equipment.
  • Document method changes, method validations and write SOPs.
  • Perform novel customer focused research and data analysis to produce white papers, presentations, and content to support Fluid Life’s ongoing Sales and Marketing efforts.
  • Meet all safety, quality and operational requirements and objectives. Follow all procedures relating to safety, quality, hazardous materials, and operations at all times.

YOU ARE THE IDEAL CANDIDATE IF YOU POSSESS:

  • MSc. or Ph.D. in Chemistry with a minimum of 2 – 5 years of experience working in an analytical testing lab with a similar matrix or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry with more than 10 years’ experience (Oils, In-Service Lubricants, Fuels and Coolants).
  • A demonstrated aptitude for instrument maintenance/service, along with experience in Analytical Method Development, is strongly preferred.
  • Specific experience working with FTIR, ICP-OES, IC, XRF and GC is an asset. Prior knowledge of tribology and the lubrication field is also preferred.

Reporting to the District Sales Manager, the Account Manager is responsible for maintaining a high level of customer service for our existing customers, with the primary focus of supporting the sales team and developing new business opportunities.   • Communicate the progress of monthly sales reports including, prospective customers, new sales, repeat sales and total revenue generated.
  • Updating the CRM and ensure the sales team is aware of changes within clients.
  • Monitor sales, prices, and products of competitors.
  • Participates in the development and execution of the Sales and Marketing Plan.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Science (Chemistry / Mechanical) degree or diploma.
  • 5+ years of experience in the sales and marketing field.
  • Experience within laboratory services, mining, construction
  • Driven to achieve sales goals.
  • Strong customer service focused approach.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills.
  • Confident self-starter and comfortable making cold calls.
  • Proven knowledge of sales principles and experience with Salesforce would be an asset.
